Un-make me and save me from living hell!
Tale
On the hunt for a serial killer, an FBI agent uncovers a series of hidden clues that she must solve in order to put an end to his terrifying killing spree. The coded messages contain poor spelling and grammar errors after being decoded. This is an homage to the Zodiac Killer, who was also known for his coded messages that contained typos, often making his message harder to decode; the one you can hear on TV is the version that has been used since 2007. Longlegs: Daddy! Mommy!
I watched all the trailers, reviews, and was VERY excited
The credits scroll backwards (top to bottom), perhaps to be consistent with part of the story. (2024). Ding Dong Performed by Nicolas Cage and composed by Osgood Perkins. To say I was excited for this movie was an understatement. A somewhat artsy, but also satanic serial killer horror movie?
With NICHOLAS CAGE?
Hell yeah! And to be fair, there’s a lot I loved in this movie. The cinematography is BEAUTIFUL, if you like cinematic movies, this one’s for you. All the performances are great, I love Nicholas Cage (although I wish he was in it more), and I love the quirky lead. The sound design was great, and the concept was interesting.
I was hooked at the beginning of the movie
However, the plot and main twist of this movie really blows my mind. As many pointed out, this movie was marketed poorly. It’s not a serial killer movie, nor a horror movie. It’s much more of a supernatural thriller, and maybe some will find it scary and disturbing, but I didn’t find it to be either of those things. The main idea of the movie is revealed early on (how the murders happen), and the final reveal is just…
But this movie really lacks tension
huh? You don’t feel any stakes, no urgency, no tension in the scenes, even when they could have tension. I hate comparing horror movies, but a kind of similar movie with its demonic aspect is Talk to Me from last year, and that movie really shows how you can use that demonic concept to generate a lot of tension and urgency in the plot and the stakes with the characters. This movie feels like a mix of Silence of the Lambs and Ominous, but it doesn’t really lean to either side and lacks tension.
