Army sends a company of volunteers to patrol the uncharted western territories
Tale
In the winter of 1862, during the Civil War, the U.S. Minervini has the set built in Montana and has the cast live there for two months.
Roberto Minervini is known for his dramatic yet documentary approach to rural American life
The dialogue and thoughts expressed are those that the actors created while living in the wilderness imagining being soldiers in the Civil War. Filled with beautiful camerawork and a meditative study between the Civil War era and his characters, Minervini provides an interesting new approach to discussing the aimless and terrifying journey of soldiers wondering and observing their surroundings and the battles of war.
Strong sound design, natural performances, and camerawork help establish the tone, atmosphere, and setting
This includes good direction used throughout the film and some of the battle sequences are well directed and presented. While some of the dialogue ends up being unpleasant, it undermines the realism aspects at times.
I guess I’m a little pretentious, lol
Overall, your beautiful and meditative take on the Civil War is something I found interesting. I know this one won’t appeal to many people, but I really like this one.
