Thelma: I didn’t expect to be so old
Tale
When 93-year-old Thelma Post is tricked by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, she embarks on a treacherous cross-town quest to reclaim what was taken from her. Thelma’s apartment in the movie is the actual apartment of the real Thelma, who is still alive at the age of 103. A clip showing the real Thelma observing the trees and exclaiming, “What a spirit!”; like its film counterpart, it plays at the end of the film.

Starring in Amanda the Jedi Show: The BEST and Weirdest Movies You (Mostly) Haven’t Seen Yet | Love Lies Bleeding (2024). Some Enchanted Evening Written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. When did the late great Richard Roundtree become the cat that is the sex machine for all the old white hens?
It also had a decent villain in Malcom McDowell, which justifies my perception
He played Jane Fonda’s love interest in Moving On, now he’s partnered with June Squibb in this "Crime Thriller" This new trend of making movies with older actresses in 2023 has lost one of its best romantic roles. This movie needed an action star to justify it, and it got that in Shaft. I mean, it has a prefect action premise: "They stole her money, now she has to get it back!" It’s funny that because the cast was as old as dirt, they did a lot of things, they did a lot more exciting things: walking up stairs, riding a moped, falling.
If I was 30 to 40 years older, I might have thought it was a horror movie
I feel like you have to be the right age to feel the danger and be able to laugh at it. So yes, it was a wonderful film about what a grandmother means to everyone when they are old enough to take care of them more than usual. Kind of grim if you’re getting to the age where you’re a burden on the family.
Also a touching love letter to a filmmaker who clearly loved his own grandmother
The emotional thrill ride was intense, even though most of the cast can’t move that fast, but it definitely makes you want to call grandma after it’s over.
